KAC's Model United Nations club attended the Berkeley Model United Nations (BMUN) Conference, held on the U.C. Berkeley Campus from March 5-7. Twenty-one students attended the Conference, nearly double the number of last year's group.

Started in 1952, the BMUN Conference is the largest of its kind on the West Coast, attracting a national and international crowd of over 1,500 high school students each year.

The students arrived in Berkeley on Thursday, toured San Francisco's Union Square and Fisherman's Wharf on Friday, and participated in a Delegate Dance on Saturday Night in addition to participating in sustained speech and debate sessions from Friday to Sunday.

KAC MUN students represented Sweden and Costa Rica in Committee debates. Desdemona Depoitre and Joshua Lee won Commendations for their speech and debate acumen throughout the Conference, an honor reserved for less than five two-delegate teams in their committee. Andrew Won, Sarah Choi, Gloria Koh, and Michelle Park (from left to right) won Research Awards for papers concerning their speech and debate topics submitted before the Conference began. And Kevin Choi, Sarah Choi, Clara Kim, and Daniel Park were the recipients of BMUN Alumni Scholarships in amounts ranging from $100 to $400.

The KAC Model United Nations program (MUN) is an after-school program designed to help underserved high school students in the greater Koreatown area. MUN is intended to give inner-city youth insight into the world at large - geopolitics, international relations, and national and international politics - while honing everyday skills, all in an effort to engage students in a critical reflection of not only global but local issues.
